Every single one of us has been a victim of crime at some point in our lives. It’s an extremely frightening and traumatizing experience that some people never forget. Fortunately, these distressing moments are resolved smoothly thanks to the help of police officers.
This week of May 15th is National Police Week, where we honor law enforcement officers and recognize their undying efforts to help keep us safe. Our society tends to brush aside these brave men and women who put their lives on the line every single day in our community. At a press conference last year, Dallas Police Chief David Brown, was quoted saying, “This is a thankless job… it’s sort of like being in a relationship where you love that person, but that person can’t express or show you love back.”
Well, Chief Brown, we’re here to say thank you. Not only to you, but also to all of the brave and dedicated police officers who aren’t appreciated enough. Thank you for loving and protecting us when we don’t support or respect you. Thank you for being there when we need you the most. On this National Police Week, we pray for every officer’s safety and remember those who have fallen in the line of duty. Your courage, dedication and selfless service is appreciated by every single one of us.
We should all find ways to pay it forward to show our appreciation for our local police officers. Whether that means giving them a hug, a high-five or even a simple “Thank You” – a token of gratitude goes a long way.
